Assemblyman Joseph Angelino has responded to the newly adopted 2025 Energy Plan by New York State, expressing measured optimism about its direction. The plan, approved by the New York State Energy Planning Board, advocates for a broad approach to energy sources that includes natural gas and acknowledges potential challenges in meeting the goals set out by the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA).

Angelino commented on the state’s acknowledgment of difficulties with the CLCPA’s targets: “I am pleased that the state is finally admitting the CLCPA and its goals are untenable for New York. My Minority colleagues and I have been saying for years now that it was unaffordable and unrealistic, and that an all-of-the-above approach was needed. Majority lawmakers knew this as well, but still decided to march ahead with this plan, with no regard for New Yorkers; all they cared about was appeasing their far-left progressive base. The current pace at which we were transitioning to fully electric had no regard for reliability, feasibility or affordability. Now armed with the admission from the state that the CLCPA is hopelessly flawed, I urge my Majority colleagues in the Legislature to take note of this plan and make substantial changes to current energy policy, including repealing the CLCPA, or this plan will be nothing more than another empty promise from Albany,” said Angelino.

The 2025 Energy Plan marks a shift in strategy by emphasizing flexibility in energy sourcing rather than exclusive reliance on renewable or electric solutions. The board’s approval signals a reassessment of previous climate policies due to concerns over practicality and cost.
