Assemblyman Joseph Angelino, along with Assemblyman Robert Smullen and other Assembly Minority colleagues, has raised concerns about the high tax burden faced by New Yorkers. The group was joined by representatives from the American Legislative Exchange Council to discuss ongoing budget negotiations for the $252 billion state budget, which is overdue by eight days.
Angelino highlighted New York’s position as having the highest tax burden among all 50 states. He stated, “New York is the highest-taxed state in the nation, and even with that, we are facing a fiscal cliff.” Angelino emphasized the need for “real tax relief” to make living more affordable and address the state’s out-migration issue. He warned that continued high taxes could reduce the tax base further, leading to increased taxes to cover services.
Angelino suggested lowering taxes and cutting unsustainable spending as solutions to these challenges.
