A program at UHS continues to honor the outstanding contributions of non-licensed nursing support staff. Caitlyn Sherwood was named the June winner of the Sunshine Program Award. Caitlyn received the award along with a bouquet of sunflowers and celebrated with cookies.

Caitlyn, who works as a unit secretary in Main Tower 3, was nominated by a colleague. The nomination highlighted Caitlyn’s dedication and kindness toward patients, their families, and the Neuro team. The colleague shared an instance where Caitlyn helped a patient unable to speak or move independently due to her condition. Recognizing the patient’s emotional state, Caitlyn played “You Are My Sunshine” and sang along, encouraging the patient to engage for the first time.

The nominating colleague remarked on Caitlyn’s consistent empathy and willingness to help others: “What is even more amazing is that Caitlyn’s acts of empathy and kindness are not rare. She has the sort of personality and strength that lifts everyone’s spirit,” said the nominating colleague. “It has been an absolute pleasure to work with her the few times I have. If I need anything, she is someone who will offer a helping hand without condition. She never looks for recognition but without a doubt deserves it.”

UHS encourages nominations for non-licensed support staff based on values such as Respect, Teamwork, Innovation, Trust, and Compassion. Nominations can be submitted through various channels including kiosks at UHS locations or via email.

Each month one nominee receives special recognition.
