Chemung County is opening registration for its first Pumpkin Chucking Contest, scheduled as part of the Fall Fest at the Chemung County Fairgrounds on October 18, 2025. The event will run from 4:00 to 6:00 PM and invites groups to design and build pumpkin-launching devices to compete in distance and accuracy categories.

The contest includes two divisions: a Youth Division for ages 12–17 using pumpkins weighing between three and five pounds, and an Adult Division for participants aged 18 and older using pumpkins weighing eight to ten pounds. Participation is free but requires pre-registration by October 1, 2025, through the county’s online form at https://forms.chemungcountyny.gov/PumpkinChuck/.

“We want families, schools, and community groups to come together, get creative, and have some fun,” said County Executive Moss. “This event is about teamwork, imagination, and celebrating the season in a way that’s uniquely Chemung County.”

The Pumpkin Chucking Contest is one of several activities planned for Fall Fest at the fairgrounds. The schedule includes a craft fair from noon to 4:00 PM, Trunk or Treat & Fun House from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, followed by fireworks at 7:00 PM. Winners of the contest will receive prizes.

All contest rules, safety guidelines, and information about pumpkin weights will be provided during registration. Pumpkins will be supplied by Chemung County.

For additional details about the event or registration process, interested parties can contact Kevin Adams, Chemung County Public Information Officer.
