Congressman Nick Langworthy has announced a significant grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) awarded to the County of Chautauqua Industrial Development Agency. The $500,000 funding is intended for environmental assessments and planning the cleanup of 21 sites in Dunkirk and Jamestown.
The federal investment will support efforts to address long-abandoned and potentially contaminated properties. Key areas targeted include a vacant waterfront block, a former auto dealership and repair shop, a closed manufacturing facility, and an old dry cleaner site in Dunkirk. In Jamestown, the focus will be on a former landfill and several vacant industrial properties.
“I’m proud to announce this $500,000 Brownfields grant that will help clean up blighted and hazardous sites across Dunkirk and Jamestown,” said Congressman Langworthy. “These long-neglected properties have been barriers to investment and job creation for years. With this funding, we can begin transforming these liabilities into engines of economic opportunity—turning eyesores into job sites and pollution into progress. This is a major win for the future of Chautauqua County.”
