Today, Congressman Nick Langworthy announced that the Finger Lakes Railway Corp. will receive $3,869,945 from the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA). The funding is designated for Watkins Glen Rural track rehabilitation and aims to improve rail infrastructure and safety.
The grant was initially announced during the Biden administration but had not been funded until now. It will be executed under the Trump administration with support from Secretary Duffy.
Congressman Langworthy stated, “I am thrilled to announce that the Finger Lakes Railway Corp. has been awarded over $3.8 million for critical track rehabilitation in Watkins Glen.” He emphasized that these funds would help modernize rural rail infrastructure, enhance safety, and boost economic activity in the region. He described it as a significant achievement for the Southern Tier’s transportation network.
Secretary Duffy’s Office commented on these grants as part of a backlog left by the previous administration. They assured that under Secretary Duffy’s leadership, efforts are being made to ensure compliance with executive orders and work with project sponsors to finalize agreements. “As DOT works through the backlog, I’ll share additional information as I get it,” said Secretary Duffy’s Office.
