The UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital Foundation held its annual golf tournament at Canasawacta Country Club on June 6, marking the event’s 26th year. The foundation reported a record turnout, with 148 golfers forming 37 teams and more than 30 volunteers participating. This year’s event also saw an increase in sponsorships, collectively raising over $55,000 for the hospital foundation.
CMH Foundation Executive Director Melissa Stagnaro highlighted the event’s broader significance beyond golf: “This event is more than about golf – it’s truly an opportunity for us to celebrate the connection between our caregivers and the patients and community we serve.”
Stagnaro expressed gratitude for the support from sponsors, golfers, and volunteers: “We are so fortunate to have generous sponsors, engaged golfers and dozens of volunteers who believe in what we do, and come out to support us every year. This year, they really blew us away.” Sponsors included Compass Healthcare, Chianis + Anderson Architects, NBT Bank & NBT Insurance, Preferred Mutual among others.
She praised nearly three dozen volunteers for their dedication: “They are so passionate in their support of our hospital and foundation. They truly go all out for us.”
Garry Root has chaired the tournament for much of the last decade. He attributes its success to engaging players with dynamic activities: “I think this is one of the best tournaments because we’re very engaged with our players and keep the tournament moving and lively,” he said.
The popularity led to turning away some teams due to high demand. To accommodate interest, Root announced a second “CMH Family & Friends” tournament scheduled for September 20.
