Guthrie Health System has reaffirmed its collaboration with the Center for Organ Recovery & Education (CORE) as part of National Donate Life Month. The ongoing partnership was highlighted today with a ceremony at Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, where the Donate Life Flag was raised. This event aims to draw attention to the urgent need for organ, tissue, and cornea donors, with 100,000 people currently waiting for life-saving transplants in the United States.

Guthrie officials and transplant recipients shared their experiences, emphasizing how donor generosity has impacted lives. Guthrie supports organ donation as partners with CORE, providing a dedicated team to facilitate the donation process for willing families.

“We fight to save lives, but we also offer solace to grieving families, helping them find comfort in knowing their loved one’s legacy continues through donation,” said William Osterman, Vice President of Nursing at Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital.

Joseph Sawyer, Senior Vice President and President of Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital, noted, “Today, we are honoring the donors who have given the gift of hope, and we are acknowledging the lives that have been transformed through their generosity.”

With the focus on initiating conversations about organ donation before emergencies occur, potential donors are encouraged to register at registerme.org.

Christie Ryan, CORE’s Director of Professional Services and Hospital Development, added, “Donate Life Month is a tribute to the selfless donors and their families whose generous decision to give the gift of life has brought hope and healing to those awaiting a transplant and transplant recipients. I am happy to partner with Robert Packer Hospital on this initiative.”
