Guthrie Lourdes Hospital has begun a yearlong celebration to mark its 100th anniversary, highlighting both its legacy and future plans for healthcare in the Southern Tier. The hospital was founded in 1925 and has served generations of families in the region.

The anniversary festivities started with a news conference and reception on Friday, followed by a community open house on Saturday, November 15. Hospital leaders and local officials attended the event, reflecting on the institution’s history and ongoing commitment to evolving healthcare needs.

During the news conference, hospital leadership discussed strategic investments aimed at advancing technology and expanding specialized services. These efforts are intended to keep Guthrie Lourdes Hospital at the forefront of regional healthcare.

Dr. Edmund Sabanegh, President and CEO of Guthrie, said:

“When Lourdes Hospital joined the Guthrie family, it represented an extraordinary opportunity to preserve and strengthen a century of high-quality care. For 100 years, Lourdes has been a place of hope, healing and compassion — and together, we’re ensuring this legacy continues. As we look toward the next 100 years, Guthrie is honored to ensure that excellent, compassionate care remains here for good.”

Kathy Connerton, Senior Vice President and President of Guthrie Lourdes Hospital, stated:

“Look around — this is what 100 years of community care looks like: generations of families who’ve trusted us with their most precious moments. From 1925 to today, our caregivers have shared one purpose, a call to service, and you are the living legacy of those four sisters who believed Binghamton deserved better. As we celebrate 100 years and look forward to the next century with Guthrie, we’re ensuring that the mission to provide exceptional care for all people will continue for generations to come.”

New York state Senator Lea Webb sent remarks acknowledging the milestone:

“For 100 years, Guthrie Lourdes Hospital has been a pillar of care and compassion in the Binghamton community. This centennial celebration is a testament to Lourdes’ enduring impact on the health and well-being of generations of patients and families.”

Saturday’s community celebration at the hospital included live music, activities for families, local vendors, and an anniversary cake as part of recognizing community support.
