Today, Congressman Nick Langworthy announced that New York State has received a grant of $328,000 from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The funds will be used to monitor water quality at Great Lake beaches and alert the public if high levels of bacteria make swimming unsafe.

The funding is provided under the Beaches Environmental Assessment and Coastal Health (BEACHES) Act, which aims to ensure clean and safe water access for all Americans. This initiative aligns with the EPA’s “Powering the Great American Comeback” program.

Congressman Langworthy emphasized the importance of this funding for communities along Lake Erie. “It is crucial that our beach communities along Lake Erie received this funding to ensure the beaches are safe and open for business,” he stated. “I will always be an advocate of the public receiving the information they need to enjoy all Lake Erie has to offer – including water sports, beachgoing, and recreation.”
