Yesterday, Congressman Nick Langworthy from New York’s 23rd District presented the State Energy Accountability Act in Washington, D.C. This proposed legislation aims to prompt states to assess the effects of clean energy standards and renewable portfolio standards on energy costs and reliability.
The bill seeks to modify the Public Utilities Regulatory Policies Act to encourage states to deliberate certain policies. Langworthy asserts that “New York’s stringent climate rules and policies have a tremendously negative effect on everyday consumer costs and energy reliability.” He emphasizes that the act will provide Americans with the transparency needed to understand the ramifications of state policies on electricity reliability.
Chairman Guthrie also remarked on the significance of the bill, stating, “Finding ways to ensure energy reliability is a critical step as we look to safeguard and enhance our grid in the coming years in order to maintain our energy dominance and power AI and advanced manufacturing.” He expressed appreciation for Langworthy’s efforts, noting the legislation’s role in ensuring states consider the impact of renewable energy standards.
Additionally, Congressman Gabe Evans (R-C) is an original cosponsor of the bill.
