State Senator Tom O’Mara and Assemblyman Chris Friend visited Horseheads High School to honor the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Class AA Boys Varsity Baseball state champions. The event took place on Tuesday, with Chemung County Executive Christopher Moss also in attendance.
The legislators presented the team with a joint Senate-Assembly Legislative Resolution, co-sponsored by Assemblyman Phil Palmesano. This resolution paid tribute to the 2025 Section V Class D champion Blue Raiders. The team concluded their season with a 21-2 record, securing victory against Fox Run with a score of 6-5 in an intense championship game at Binghamton University on June 14. Kevin Monahan’s single brought in the winning run during the bottom of the eighth inning.

In a joint statement, O’Mara, Friend, and Palmesano expressed pride in recognizing the team’s success: “We always look forward to these opportunities to recognize and honor the excellence and success of the remarkable student-athletes who help our school communities stand out.” They acknowledged the dedication and skill of both players and coaches while highlighting Coach Limoncelli’s impact on countless players’ lives.
Chemung County Executive Christopher Moss congratulated the team: “As County Executive, I am incredibly proud to congratulate the Horseheads High School Baseball Team on their 2025 NYSPHSAA Class AA State Championship.” He emphasized Coach Limoncelli’s role in developing both winning teams and young people of character over nearly three decades.
Horseheads Superintendent Thomas Douglas thanked local legislators for recognizing the team’s achievements: “Winning a state title is a moment these players and our entire community will never forget.” He also praised Coach Limoncelli for his contributions over 27 years.
