State Assemblyman Phil Palmesano, Assemblywoman Andrea Bailey, and Sara Lattin, Chief of Staff for Senator Tom O’Mara, visited Arkport Central School to honor the Arkport-Canaseraga Boys Varsity Baseball team. The team won the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) Class D state championship.
The legislators presented an official Legislative Resolution from the Senate and Assembly recognizing the team’s achievement in winning the 2024 Section V Class D championship. The Wolves concluded their season with an 18-3 record by defeating Oriskany 4-0 in the state championship game held at Binghamton University.
In a joint statement, O’Mara, Palmesano, and Bailey expressed their pride in honoring these student-athletes. They noted that “the Arkport-Canaseraga boys varsity baseball state champions topped off an incredible 2024 season by winning a state championship,” which they described as “the ultimate achievement in high school athletics.”
The resolution honored Head Coach Nick Smith and assistant coaches Stan Ells, Diangelo Carey, Ethan Lewis, and Vincent McDaniel. It also recognized players Jacob Bacon, Brenton Booth, Aydan Button, Caden Carey, Bryer Drake, Richard Flaitz, Drew Glover, Curtis Hartman, Bryson Jones, Tayven Lavetsky, Ben Leibham, John Marcus, Micah Marvin, Eli Merry, Devin Moran, Conor Smith, Connor Westfall and Taylor Pragle.
Arkport-Canaseraga Superintendent Jesse Harper praised the team for showing “heart,” “grit,” and unity during their journey to the title. He added that they have made history while bringing communities together.
Head Coach Nick Smith highlighted that “being a State Champion is forever” and expressed pride in leading such a successful group. Athletic Director Rob Patrick acknowledged the dedication of both players and families who contributed countless hours to achieving this success.
