Congressman Nick Langworthy commented on the House of Representatives’ approval of H.J. Res. 88, which challenges an electric vehicle mandate from New York State. The resolution seeks to reverse the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) decision allowing California to prohibit the sale of gas-powered vehicles by 2035.
“I am very pleased that H.J.Res. 88 passed the House today, reversing the EPA’s decision to allow California to ban the sale of gas-powered vehicles by 2035,” Langworthy said.
The congressman expressed concerns about potential negative impacts on dealers and workers, noting his previous efforts to challenge the New York EV Sales Mandate. “This push to force Americans into electric vehicles is nonsensical and dangerous. Forcing our dealerships to shoulder this burden would have had dire consequences,” he stated.
Langworthy described the decision as a victory for various stakeholders in the auto industry. “This legislation’s passage in the House is a huge win for our auto-industry consumers, dealerships, and workers! Now, the Senate must pass it immediately so President Trump can sign it into law as soon as possible,” he emphasized.
The resolution now moves to the Senate for consideration before it can proceed to the President.
