Liberty, NY – U.S. Rep. Marc Molinaro (NY-19) announced that the Sullivan County Head Start program is set to reopen on Tuesday, April 9. This development comes after Rep. Molinaro's advocacy and efforts to address the closure of the Head Start centers in Woodbourne and Monticello.

In a statement, Rep. Molinaro expressed his satisfaction with the reopening, saying, “The Office of Head Start (OHS) has just informed me that a temporary Sullivan Head Start provider will be reopening centers in Woodbourne and Monticello on Tuesday, April 9. This was the step I’ve been pushing for alongside our local partners in Sullivan County. It will allow us to return children to the Head Start program."

Highlighting the importance of the Head Start program, Rep. Molinaro emphasized, “The fact remains: Sullivan Head Start should have never closed to begin with. And it’s unnerving that these disruptions to families and staff went on for so long. As the work continues to secure a permanent provider, there will be a simultaneous effort to deliver accountability for the closure."

Rep. Molinaro has been actively involved in advocating for the swift reopening of the Sullivan Head Start program since its abrupt closure. He has been releasing statements, holding mobile office hours, and calling for accountability to address the challenges faced by families and staff due to the closure.

Moreover, Rep. Molinaro's recent vote to increase federal funding for Head Start programs by over $1 billion in the Fiscal Year 2024 appropriations aims to ensure that essential programs like the one in Sullivan County are adequately funded and can continue to support children and families in need.
