U.S. Rep. Marc Molinaro recently announced the allocation of $14,868,390 in federal funds for Head Start programs across several counties in Upstate New York. The funds will benefit organizations such as the Family Enrichment Network of Greater Binghamton, Greater Opportunities for Broome and Chenango, Opportunities for Otsego, and Tompkins Community Action.
In a statement, Rep. Molinaro emphasized his commitment to taking action, stating, “Less talking, less divisive rhetoric, and more doing. That’s how I’ve approached my job in Congress and why I’m proud to announce more funding for critical early education programming across Upstate New York. Now, more children will have access to high-quality education and these effective programs will be able to extend their reach throughout our communities.”
Dan Maskin, Chief Executive Officer at Opportunities for Otsego, expressed gratitude for the support, saying, “We are always pleased and proud to be able to provide Head Start programming to low-income families in Otsego County. We have received continued high marks from program reviewers regarding early childhood development as well as financial management excellence as is demonstrated on annual independent audits. We look forward to another great year with Head Start and thank Congressman Molinaro for his vital support."
The funds, made available through the Head Start and Early Head Start programs administered by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, aim to support comprehensive early childhood education, health, nutrition, and parent involvement services for children from low-income families.
The breakdown of the grants includes $4,691,836 for Opportunities for Otsego, $4,367,889 for Tompkins Community Action, $2,959,859 for Greater Opportunities for Broome and Chenango, and $2,848,806 for the Family Enrichment Network of Greater Binghamton.
