WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Nick Langworthy (NY-23) has revealed that a substantial grant of $131,514 from the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) has been allocated for the Village of Westfield’s Downtown Redevelopment Project. The funding aims to breathe new life into a vacant lot near the waterfront.
"Westfield is situated near beautiful Lake Erie and serves as a hub for tourists and Chautauqua County residents alike," expressed Congressman Langworthy. He highlighted that the grant is instrumental in revitalizing the downtown area, with plans to create an event space, enhance pedestrian access, and broaden parking options to stimulate economic growth and bolster local businesses.
The ARC disclosed that the project will involve the construction of a 300-seat amphitheater and park space, opening up avenues for fresh events and programming in downtown Westfield by repurposing a derelict property. The development of formal access to the Chautauqua Creek waterfront and the Welch Trail is anticipated to draw in visitors and act as an economic catalyst.
In conjunction with the ARC funds, local contributions will amount to $30,000, while state funding will contribute $450,040, resulting in a total project budget of $611,554.
Projects like the Westfield Downtown Redevelopment are seen as vital in combating population decline and unemployment rates in the Southern Tier region. Congressman Langworthy affirmed his dedication to advocating for more opportunities of this nature for the area's advancement.
