Congressman Nick Langworthy (NY-23) issued a statement following the verdict in the trial against former President Donald Trump. Langworthy criticized the proceedings, referring to them as "an unprecedented corruption of our justice system and a very dark day for America."
Langworthy asserted, "We have witnessed a blatant action to imprison a Presidential nominee and steal the election out of the hands of the voters." He accused the prosecutor, judge, and jury of conspiring to undermine democracy in a manner he described as more fitting for a "banana republic" than the United States.
The congressman specifically targeted Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, alleging that he was financially supported by George Soros and manipulated by President Biden's administration. Langworthy stated, "It is an egregious abuse of power aimed solely at keeping President Trump out of the White House."
Expressing concern over what he perceives as a compromised judicial system, Langworthy said, "Every American should be deeply concerned and have serious doubts about the integrity of our judicial system after what we have seen today." He framed the trial as not only an attack on Trump but also on American democracy and foundational principles.
Langworthy concluded his statement by expressing his support for Trump: "I stand fully behind President Trump and reject this sham trial just like the Appellate Division will. The real verdict will come on November 5th when the people vote to send Trump back to the White House."
