Tammy Tranvaag has been recognized as the March winner of the DAISY Award at UHS, a program designed to honor exceptional nurses. Tranvaag, a maternity nurse, was nominated by a colleague who highlighted her dedication and teamwork. The nomination letter described how she stayed after her shift to assist other nurses and patients during a busy evening.
“This is not new for Tammy. She is often seen trying to help after she should have left for the day. She knows when an extra hand is needed and doesn’t hesitate to provide it,” said the nominating colleague. “Thank you Tammy, for leading the maternity team at CMH to provide outstanding patient experiences every day.”
The DAISY (Diseases Attacking the Immune SYstem) Award is an international recognition program established by the family of J. Patrick Barnes, who passed away in 1999 due to complications from ITP, an auto-immune disease. The award acknowledges nurses’ skillful and compassionate care worldwide.
At UHS, which began participating in April 2021, nominations can be made by anyone within the organization who witnesses extraordinary nursing care. Nominations are submitted through a form on NYUHS.org, where nominators can share their stories and identify which UHS Value—Compassion, Trust, Respect, Teamwork, or Innovation—the nurse demonstrated.
