New York State Senator Tom O’Mara has voiced strong criticism of recent legislative and budgetary actions by Democratic lawmakers, expressing concerns about affordability and the direction of state policy in a series of social media posts.
On March 11, 2026, O’Mara stated, “This plan will do nothing but make living in New York State more expensive. While affordability is the buzzword of the year, every action the Democrats take in this Legislature makes NYS more expensive. It defies any common sense.”
The following day, March 12, he continued his critique of budget proposals: “The @NYSenateDems budget is a fantasy, but it’s a very scary and concerning fantasy for the future of New York State…we’ve taxed and spent our way into an unaffordability crisis.”
On March 13, O’Mara shifted focus to emergency services, posting: “Welcomed a visit in Albany this week from Chief Wayne C. Friedman (right), @nysfirechiefs Director, and Chief William K. Owen III, the Association’s 1st Vice President. Thank you for your input on the critical challenges facing the emergency services sector throughout NYS.”
O’Mara represents New York’s Southern Tier region in the State Senate after previously serving three terms in the Assembly for the 137th District (official website). He has served on committees such as Finance; Investigations and Government Operations; Codes; Energy and Telecommunications; Insurance; Judiciary; Rules; and participated in the Legislative Commission on Rural Resources (official website). Raised in Horseheads, Chemung County, O’Mara has also contributed to community organizations as counsel to local agencies and development councils (official website).
