Tom O’Mara, a New York State Senator who has served in both the Senate and Assembly and contributed to local organizations, posted several messages on social media this week addressing state energy policies and expressing appreciation for farmers.
On March 23, 2026, O’Mara criticized ongoing state mandates under the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA), writing “pushing a range of other actions to end numerous CLCPA mandates, including pending rules requiring all-electric school bus fleets…the only way to reduce energy costs in NYS is to change Albany-driven energy policies.” He linked to his weekly column in the post.
Two days later, on March 25, 2026, O’Mara reiterated concerns about state energy policy impacts on residents. He stated “These actions are delivering a heavy price tag that will only get heavier as time goes on for ratepayers – unless we change course…the current strategy is not realistic or achievable. It unreasonably risks energy grid reliability and affordability.”
Between these posts, O’Mara also acknowledged the contributions of agricultural workers in New York. On March 24, 2026, he wrote “Thank you to our farmers for the work that you do, day in and day out, for the strength and success of local communities, families, and economies throughout New York State and across the nation!”
O’Mara’s background includes serving as counsel to community organizations such as the Chemung County Industrial Development Agency and St. Joseph’s Hospital. He was also a member of regional groups like the Southern Tier Regional Economic Development Council (source). Born in Horseheads, Chemung County and residing in Big Flats with his family (source), O’Mara holds degrees from Syracuse University College of Law and Catholic University of America (source).
