Tom O’Mara, a New York State Senator and former Assembly member, has recently voiced concerns about state energy and transportation policies through a series of posts on social media.
On April 15, 2026, O’Mara posted, “…the current timeline raises serious questions about affordability, reliability and student transportation safety.” Later that day, he added, “It’s irresponsible for New York State to go on asking ratepayers to bear the burden of a strategy that’s not working and that won’t work as it stands. New York’s ratepayers need relief now and Albany Democrats keep saying no.”
The following morning, on April 16, O’Mara continued his criticism: “@nysenategop members have repeatedly proposed alternatives they believe would prioritize affordability and reliability…but the proposals’ failure underscores ongoing disagreements over balancing climate policy goals with affordability concerns.”
O’Mara has served in various legislative capacities, including as counsel to local organizations such as the Chemung County Industrial Development Agency and St. Joseph’s Hospital. He is also a member of the Southern Tier Regional Economic Development Council (official website). Born in Horseheads and residing in Big Flats with his family, O’Mara holds degrees from Syracuse University College of Law and the Catholic University of America. His committee assignments have included Finance, Investigations and Government Operations, Codes, Energy and Telecommunications, Insurance, Judiciary, Rules, and the Legislative Commission on the Development of Rural Resources (official website).
O’Mara’s recent statements reflect ongoing debates within New York State regarding the balance between advancing climate policy goals and addressing concerns over affordability for residents.
