UHS has once again received the “Senior-Friendly” designation from the national program Nurses Improving Care for Healthsystem Elders (NICHE). This marks the third consecutive year that UHS has been recognized with this designation, highlighting the hospital’s ongoing commitment to providing quality care tailored to older adults.
According to a statement from UHS, the hospital participates in NICHE to improve the care experience for elderly patients and reduce the stress associated with hospital visits. “Meeting the unique needs of elderly patients is a critical part of the care we provide at UHS,” the statement reads.
The recognition for 2025 signifies that UHS has successfully implemented system-wide initiatives aimed at enhancing the care of older individuals. NICHE is described as a nurse-driven national program that acknowledges hospitals for their dedication to excellence in the care of patients aged 65 and older.
Through its partnership with NICHE, UHS nurses are provided with specialized training to address the needs of geriatric patients effectively. Further details about NICHE can be found at nicheprogram.org.
