UHS hosted a flag-raising event on April 10 at UHS Wilson Medical Center in honor of National Donate Life Month. This month-long celebration highlights the selfless contributions from individuals who have donated organs, eyes, and tissues. The ceremony had the participation of UHS employees, leaders, representatives from the Spiritual Care and Security departments, and staff from the regional Center for Donation & Transplant. Notably, the family of an organ donor was also present.

Throughout April, UHS is collaborating with the Center for Donation & Transplant to spread awareness about the significance of registering as an organ and tissue donor. The organization emphasizes that everyone has the potential to save lives by becoming a registered donor.

Toni Nash, the UHS Director of Nursing Education & Professional Practice and Clinical Coordinator for Organ and Tissue Donation, addressed the importance of organ donation. “It is important to remember that organ donation is not just about the recipients. It is also about helping families who are grieving the loss of a loved one, supporting those families, and providing them the opportunity to do something positive at a time when so much has gone wrong in their lives,” she stated.

Throughout Donate Life Month, people are encouraged to register their decision to be donors. It’s a significant step towards making a positive impact in the lives of others. Registration can be completed at www.cdtnyvt.org.
