UHS announced on Mar. 30 its continued partnership with AARP to offer Smart Driver courses aimed at promoting safe driving in the community.
The initiative is designed not only for older drivers but for anyone seeking to review safe driving practices and potentially receive an insurance discount. The program covers topics such as adapting to changing roads, vehicles, and personal health, providing strategies for drivers to navigate these changes safely.
Bethlehem Emmons-Post, Trauma Program Manager at UHS, recently led a session of the AARP Smart Driver course at the Broome West Senior Center. The course helped attendees refresh their driving skills and learn techniques to remain safe on the road.
UHS emphasized its commitment as a certified trauma center to injury prevention education within the community. The organization said that partnering with AARP enables it “to bring evidence-based safety education directly to local seniors and other drivers.”
An additional Smart Driver course is scheduled at the Harpursville Senior Center on April 13 and April 20. Those interested in participating can call (607) 763-6327 or contact the senior center directly for more information.
