National Patient Experience Week, observed from April 28 to May 2, recognizes healthcare professionals dedicated to enhancing the patient experience. Beyond this week, UHS is committed to improving patient experience throughout the year. Michele Gordon, RN, LNHA, at UHS, emphasized their commitment: “We want to ensure every patient receives the highest level of care and support, fostering a positive experience for our patients through every step of their journey.”

UHS focuses on clear communication by providing translation services in partnership with AMN Healthcare, offering real-time audio and video interpretation. This includes support for hearing-impaired patients through American Sign Language via video interpretation and in-person ASL interpreters from the Southern Tier Independence Center.

Technological innovations at UHS, such as UHS Virtual Healthcare and UHS MyChart, expand access to care and enhance patient engagement. UHS Virtual Healthcare allows remote consultations, while UHS MyChart facilitates appointment management and communication with care providers. These tools aim to make healthcare more accessible and convenient.

Logistical support at UHS includes free valet parking to ease patient and family stress, particularly for those with mobility challenges. Furthermore, the Best-In-Class Ambassador Program guides and assists patients and visitors within the hospital, ensuring a welcoming environment.

Patient and family advisory forums at UHS allow for feedback and collaboration aimed at improving care quality. Gordon stated, “When we understand the patient or family members’ journey, we can focus on improvements, celebrate our success and recognize our staff or teams who provided great care.”

UHS strives to make each interaction part of a positive patient experience. From personalized greetings to maintaining a clean environment, all actions at UHS contribute to a sense of safety and respect for patients. These initiatives demonstrate UHS’s commitment to patient-centered care and high standards of compassionate healthcare.
