On May 29, the American Heart Association (AHA) held a dinner event to honor local “Heroes of Heart” and present awards for the 2025 Southern Tier Heart Walk. The AHA acknowledged the top contributors in various categories, including companies, teams, and individuals.

UHS was notably recognized with multiple awards for its contributions to this year’s Heart Walk. The organization ranked first among company fundraisers, raising $48,211.61. “The hard work and dedication of everyone across the organization to help us reach our fundraising goal helped us earn this top spot for another year,” stated a UHS representative.

In addition to the company accolade, Bridget Metzler, director of Cardiac Services at UHS, led her team to third place among top fundraising teams by collecting $10,063.81. John Carrigg, president and CEO of UHS, secured second place in the individual walker category with $7,860 raised.

Furthermore, the UHS planning team was awarded the Heart Hero Award for their leadership in organizing various fundraising activities such as raffle baskets and trivia nights. This effort contributed significantly to Team UHS’s participation in the Southern Tier Heart Walk on April 27.

The Southern Tier Heart Walk has been an annual event for 36 years and has raised over $5 million for research and advocacy programs through community efforts.
