UHS Wilson Medical Center has been recognized with the 2025 American Heart Association (AHA)/American Stroke Association’s (ASA) Get With The Guidelines—Stroke Gold Plus quality achievement award. This recognition highlights the hospital’s commitment to providing high-quality stroke care.

In addition to this accolade, UHS also received recognition on the Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll for its dedication to delivering research-based, high-quality stroke care for patients with type 2 diabetes. Furthermore, UHS was honored with the Target: Stroke Honor Roll Elite recognition.

The Get With The Guidelines program is an initiative by the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association aimed at ensuring hospitals nationwide provide patient care aligned with the latest evidence- and research-based guidelines. It promotes consistent adherence to these guidelines within hospitals, which can help minimize long-term effects of a stroke and potentially prevent death.

These awards are a testament to UHS’ commitment to maintaining a higher standard of stroke care and their success in treating stroke patients according to nationally accepted standards. To achieve this award, UHS demonstrated consistent adherence to treatment guidelines over 24 consecutive months, showcasing their dedication to quality care for stroke patients. Additionally, participants in the program educate patients on managing their health and recovery at home.

Hospitals qualifying for these recognitions must meet specific criteria that reduce the time between an eligible patient’s arrival at the hospital and treatment with thrombolytic therapy. They must also ensure that patients with type 2 diabetes receive up-to-date, evidence-based care when hospitalized due to stroke.

Stroke remains a significant health concern as it is the fifth leading cause of death and a major cause of disability in the United States. According to statistics from the American Stroke Association, approximately 795,000 people suffer a stroke annually in the country.

Prompt treatment at facilities like UHS Wilson Medical Center can save lives and minimize damage from strokes. The center provides around-the-clock access to specialized medical professionals who offer appropriate treatment options for potential strokes.
