Nearly a year since its opening, the UHS Wilson Main Tower at UHS Wilson Medical Center has emerged as a significant symbol of healthcare transformation in the Greater Binghamton region. Since June 26, 2024, over 250,000 visitors have passed through its doors, reflecting the community’s acceptance of a healthcare model centered on access and innovation.

The facility spans 183,000 square feet and serves as the main entrance to the UHS Wilson Medical Center campus. It has reshaped patient care delivery by focusing on comfort and efficiency. “The Tower is the culmination of years of planning, dedication, and teamwork,” stated John M. Carrigg, UHS President and CEO. He emphasized that it embodies a shared vision that caters to both patients’ evolving needs and healthcare professionals.

Strategically positioned on Main Street, the Tower facilitates access to emergency care and inpatient services with features like free valet parking for ease of arrival. Inside, volunteers assist patients in navigating their way around.

Beyond being an entry point, the Tower anchors vital services offered by UHS on Main Street in Johnson City. These include a full-service pharmacy open 24/7 and an early education center affiliated with Bright Horizons for children aged six weeks to six years.

The facility boasts 120 private inpatient rooms designed for healing with natural light and private bathrooms. Over 200 artworks by local artists add calmness throughout the hospital. The modern clinical layout enhances privacy and workflow efficiency for staff.

A state-of-the-art helipad supports rapid patient transport to the Emergency & Trauma Center via a dedicated elevator. Inside, new technologies like pCare digital displays enhance patient experience alongside advanced equipment such as an inpatient MRI scanner.

UHS Wilson Medical Center was also first in Greater Binghamton to offer Ion robotic bronchoscopy for early lung cancer detection; they performed their 100th procedure this April.

Looking forward, UHS plans to complete the new Emergency Department at Wilson Main Tower in July with additional treatment rooms aimed at improving patient flow and reducing wait times.

In its first year alone, Wilson Main Tower has set new standards for healthcare in Greater Binghamton through enhanced access and innovative medical practices while expanding community services—reflecting a commitment towards advancing patient-centered care for future generations.
