Sherburne-Earlville Central School District issued the following announcement on July 27.
Dear Parents and Caregivers:
With July quickly coming to an end, I wanted to take a moment to update you on the progress we have made over the past few weeks. Our collective task force of administrators, teachers, staff, parents, community stakeholders, and Board of Education members have worked collaboratively to help establish protocols, procedures, and best practices to keep our S-E family safe and ensure that we can engage in meaningful learning experiences come September. In order to move forward, we need your help.
First: If you have not already done so, please click this link to complete the Transportation Survey, or find it on our website. Despite the unknowns, the more accurate data we have identifying students who will need district transportation and which students will not need district transportation, the better we can prepare class lists and schedules.
Second: If you plan to have your child engage 100% virtually rather than come into school twice a week, please let your principal know.
Third: This is an incredibly challenging time, and you are the most influential person in your child’s life. Please practice masking with your child as you prepare for the fall. Remain positive as you reinforce your child’s ability to help others by wearing a mask and regularly washing their hands. If you would like help explaining these new practices to your children, please see our website or contact the principal.
As part of our work, we have relied on guidance from the State Education Department Guidance and the Department of Health Guidance. Please know that when there are discrepancies between these documents, S-E will err on the side of caution and implement the safer of the two protocols. For example, although masking is only recommended when social distancing is not possible, we will be planning for all able students to be masked unless it is a scheduled mask break. We will also be maintaining appropriate social distancing as much as able.
We will be welcoming students on Tuesday, September 8, and anticipate that students will be following a blended schedule where only 50 percent of the student population is present Tuesday through Friday. Students will also have the option to engage fully virtually while we are in the COVID-19 pandemic.
BLENDED SCHEDULE
Monday
Students: Virtual, Staff: Collaboration

It takes an entire team effort to serve our students, this includes our partnership with parents and caregivers. Although we are currently facing some challenges, the student-centered, collaborative planning that has taken place should make all stakeholders very proud. Remember that we are all in this together.
Peace,
Robert G. Berson
Superintendent of Schools
