Windsor Central School District recently issued the following announcement.
Late on Friday, October 9, 2020, the Broome County Health Department (BCHD) notified the Windsor Central School District that the district had another confirmed cases of COVID-19 involving a student who attends Windsor Central High School. Information regarding this individual’s identity cannot be released. We ask that you please respect this student’s privacy. This student will be placed in isolation for the mandated number of days.
Based on the information we currently have, the student was not in school during their infectious period, the time frame that would require mandatory quarantines.
In discussions with the BCHD, if there was any person in direct or proximate contact with this individual, they will be placed in quarantine. The district is assisting the Broome County Health Department with a contact tracing investigation.
Exposure to COVID-19 can occur from any person-to-person or proximate contact. There are a number of steps that can minimize the spread of all respiratory illnesses, including COVID-19, according to the New York State Department of Health:
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water is not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
- Stay home when you are sick.
- Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
