Students from SUNY Broome’s MUS 113: From Spirituals to Hip Hop: American Music of the African Diaspora will present an original reenactment of the events at The Cazenovia Convention.

The Cazenovia Convention was a Fugitive Slave Convention that took place in Cazenovia, New York, in 1850. Prominent abolitionists like Frederick Douglass and J.W. Loguen gathered in protest of the Fugitive Slave Law.

SUNY Broome’s Department of Music and Theater Arts students will share speeches from the convention and perform songs to educate us on the importance of this event.
