Mayor Jared M. Kraham on Thursday joined members of the local Irish-American community to announce details of the 55th Annual Binghamton St. Patrick Day’s Parade, which returns to downtown on Saturday, March 4.
“Binghamton Parade Day is one of our community’s most beloved traditions, drawing thousands to downtown Binghamton to celebrate the start of the St. Patrick’s Day season and our area’s strong Irish roots,” said Mayor Kraham. “As always, we’re reminding residents this is a family-friendly event, and police will be enforcing open container and other laws to ensure the community can enjoy the day safely. My thanks to the Hibernian Parade Committee of Broome, Inc. for their work year after year to make this event possible.”
The parade will begin at 1:30 p.m. at the corner of Court and Fayette streets, and proceed west through downtown to the intersection of Main Street and Arthur Avenue.
Five bagpipe bands are scheduled to march in the parade, including the Edward P. Maloney Memorial Pipe Band, the Broome County Celtic Pipes and Drums, and the Philadelphia Police and Fire Pipe Band.
This year’s parade dignitaries include Cookie Luke as grand marshal, Monica Luke as Maid of Erin, and Gary Laskowsky as the starter.
The Hibernian Parade Committee of Broome, Inc. has organized Binghamton’s St. Patrick’s Day parade since 1967.
Other Parade Day festivities include a mass at St. Mary’s church downtown at 11:30 a.m., a post-parade party at Seton Catholic Central from 1 to 6 p.m., and live music at the Ancient Order of Hibernians Hall starting at 2 p.m.
