Congressman Nick Langworthy and Congresswoman Claudia Tenney have penned a letter to Governor Kathy Hochul, expressing concerns about the Migrant Relocation Assistance Program (MRAP) and demanding answers regarding the relocation of individuals with unproven asylum claims to Erie and Monroe Counties in New York.
In the letter, Langworthy and Tenney stated, “Instead of reversing these disastrous policies, your administration has chosen to export the crisis in New York City to Upstate communities, such as those in Erie County and Monroe County. Law-abiding New Yorkers should not have their safety placed in jeopardy because of radical policies allowing unvetted individuals to cross our borders at will. While many of these individuals are allowed to stay here as ‘asylum seekers,’ the facts show that the overwhelming majority of asylum claims are found to be illegitimate when adjudicated.”
The members urged Governor Hochul to reverse the immigration policies that have been implemented by her administration and the New York State Legislature. They posed a series of questions to the Governor, including inquiries about the number of individuals relocated under MRAP, the cost to taxpayers, the vetting process for participants, and the measures in place to ensure the safety of American citizens in the affected counties.
The letter also questioned how the administration is guaranteeing that the relocated individuals attend their court dates and comply with the law. The representatives requested a response from Governor Hochul by March 25th.
