Washington, DC – U.S. Rep. Marc Molinaro (NY-19) released a statement and spoke on the House Floor regarding his vote to pass the Laken Riley Act. The bill comes in the aftermath of the tragic murder of 22-year-old nursing student Laken Riley by an undocumented immigrant in New York State.
Molinaro expressed, "Laken Riley was a 22-year-old nursing student with a bright future." He continued by stating, "In the wake of this tragedy, I voted to pass the Laken Riley Act." The legislation aims to address the issue of undocumented immigrants involved in criminal activities by assigning federal immigration officials to such cases, enabling the detention and deportation of dangerous individuals.
The Congressman criticized President Biden and Governor Hochul for their handling of related crises. Molinaro highlighted, "President Biden could take the border crisis he created seriously, but he’s chosen a path that’s fueled instability and crime." He added, "Governor Hochul could take the crime crisis she’s created seriously by repealing bail reform and ‘sanctuary’ laws." Molinaro emphasized his commitment to supporting victims, law enforcement, and the community.
Molinaro's decision to push for the Laken Riley Act reflects his dedication to protecting citizens and upholding law and order in the face of tragic incidents like Laken Riley's murder.
