Washington, DC – U.S. Reps. Marc Molinaro (R-NY-19) and Tom Suozzi (D-NY-03) have joined efforts to push the State Department to secure the release of American hostages, including Omer Neutra, held by Hamas terrorists.
Last month, Rep. Molinaro spoke on the House Floor about the kidnapping of Omer Neutra and Congressman. Rep. Suozzi visited the Neutra parents in Tel Aviv and hosted them at the State of the Union.
In a letter addressed to Secretary of State Antony Blinken, Reps. Molinaro and Suozzi expressed their deep concerns about the situation. They emphasized the urgency of the matter, stating, “As Secretary of State, you oversee the Special Presidential Envoy for Hostage Affairs which was created to secure the freedom of American hostages and wrongful detainees held abroad and assist their families."
The lawmakers highlighted the dire conditions faced by the hostages, including Omer Neutra, a Binghamton University student and Long Island native. They urged Secretary Blinken to facilitate negotiations for the safe return of all those held captive by Hamas.
The letter detailed the horrific experiences of the hostages, mentioning instances of abuse, sexual assault, torture, and heavy drugging by the Hamas captors. The representatives called for renewed efforts in the negotiations to ensure the hostages' safe return and to hold Hamas accountable for their actions.
Rep. Molinaro and Rep. Suozzi stressed the importance of diplomatic support and resources from the United States to assist Israel in freeing the hostages and upholding international law.
The lawmakers concluded their letter by appealing to Secretary Blinken, stating, "Now is the time for Omer and the remaining hostages in Gaza to return home. Given your public commitment to the safety of Americans abroad and support for human rights, renewing hostage return negotiations between all parties and ensuring the safe return of all those in captivity must be a priority."
