Test expectations: How many students passed their Mathematics test in Chemung County in 2021-22 school year?

Of the 4,153 students in Chemung County who took the 2021-22 Mathematics test, 17.1% met expectations and 8.7% did better than expected, according to the New York State Education Department.

In total, 25.8% of the students met or exceeded expections in Chemung County, an increase of 3.7% compared to the previous school year.

Within the county, Big Flats School students performed the best in Mathematics, with 52% of them considered proficient in the subject. Meanwhile, Thomas K. Beecher School students fared the worst, with only 5% passing the test.

The state registered an overall proficiency rate of 37% of students who met or exceeded expectations.

A 2021 report from the NYC Center for Innovation Through Data Intelligence found that outcomes for different racial and gender groups had improved since 2013. However, despite the improvements, significant gaps still persist, particularly among Black and Hispanic students.
