Binghamton, NY — U.S. Representative Marc Molinaro (NY-19) has issued a statement regarding Governor Kathy Hochul’s decision to pause congestion pricing and its potential impact on Upstate New York.
“Governor Hochul’s political play on congestion pricing will go down in history as one of the most egregious cases of executive incompetence,” Molinaro stated. “Congestion pricing is deeply unpopular and puts financial pressure on working New Yorkers. Apparently Governor Hochul just realized this and saw it impacting competitive congressional races. So she hit pause in the 11th hour and created a $1 billion budgetary hole for New York State with no way to plug it.”
Molinaro expressed concern that the fiscal gap resulting from the pause in congestion pricing would affect regions beyond New York City. “This is not going to remain a NYC problem. Time and time again we see the Governor take the City’s problems and shift the burden onto Upstate New Yorkers,” he said. “If history is any guide, we will need to fight. I will stand against Hochul’s political play and any tax increases on Upstate New York.”
