Cortland High School had the highest enrollment among Cortland County schools, welcoming 596 students during the 2022-23 academic year, according to the New York State Education Department.

Data also showed that most of the students were white, representing 84.7% of the Cortland High School's total enrollment.

Among the 16 schools in Cortland County, Homer Senior High School ranked second in enrollment numbers with 579 students, while Homer Elementary School welcomed 491 students and came in third in the 2022-23 school year.

Cortland High School is part of Cortland City School District, which roughly covers three schools within Cortland County and has a main office in Cincinnatus.

In the previous school year, Cortland High School also had the highest number of students among Cortland County schools.

In 2022, New York had roughly one teacher for every 12 students, which is lower than the national average of one teacher for every 16 students. A lower student-to-teacher ratio has been found to improve students' school performance.
