Applications for Child Care Workforce Grants are now open, according to a recent announcement. The initiative provides $500 million in funding, which will support approximately 150,000 direct childcare staff through financial incentives. These incentives range from $2,300 to $3,000 in retention and referral bonuses for existing staff, as well as sign-on bonuses for new hires.
Eligible childcare programs include school-age childcare programs, day care centers, family day care homes, group family day care programs, small day care centers and New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene-permitted Article 47 group centers.
To qualify for retention and referral bonuses, staff must be employed at the program’s physical location in an active child-caring role. They should have worked a minimum number of hours per week between January 1 and June 26 of this year and completed a background check by June 26.
Further details can be found on the Office of Children and Family Services website. Businesses interested in participating are encouraged to submit applications promptly.
