Assemblyman Joseph Angelino (R,C-Norwich) expressed his appreciation for Governor Hochul's signing of the Ambulance Direct Pay Bill (A.250/S.1466) into law. This legislation mandates that insurance companies send payments directly to ambulance service providers, ensuring they receive the necessary resources to operate safely and effectively. The bill passed unanimously in both the Senate and Assembly earlier this year.

Angelino, a long-time supporter of the bill, emphasized its importance at a recent press conference alongside colleagues and local stakeholders. "During my time as a fire chief, my agency had to write off thousands of dollars annually because payment was not sent directly to our agency, but to the insured person," he said. Angelino served as fire chief of the City of Norwich for over two years, overseeing ambulance services and billing during his tenure.

"I am glad the governor signed this important piece of legislation. Direct Pay is the right thing to do, especially considering it passed unanimously in both the Assembly and Senate. With Direct Pay now law, EMS providers can rest a little easier knowing they will receive the resources they need," Angelino stated.

The Direct Pay to Ambulance Service law will take effect in January 2025.
