U.S. Rep. Marc Molinaro (R-NY-19) announced today that the Lifespan Respite Reauthorization Act has passed the House of Representatives with bipartisan support. The bill, introduced alongside U.S. Rep. Tony Cárdenas (D-CA-29), is Molinaro's sixth standalone bill to pass and contributes to his record of 54 bipartisan measures, with 12 signed into law.

Respite services provide temporary care or supervision for individuals with disabilities and chronic conditions, offering families much-needed relief. Authorized by Congress in 2006, the Lifespan Respite Care Program allocates federal funding to states for these services. In New York, the New York State Caregiving and Respite Coalition utilizes this funding to train volunteer respite providers.

With the program set to expire in fiscal year 2024, Molinaro’s bill reauthorizes it for another four years, aiming to support family caregivers.

"By passing the Lifespan Respite Reauthorization Act, we will continue providing caregivers with the relief and assistance they deserve," said Rep. Molinaro. "I'm proud to have this bill pass with bipartisan support to reaffirm our commitment to family caregivers who so selflessly care for a loved one with a disability or chronic illness. They deserve our utmost support."
