Congressman Langworthy announced that the Town of Ashland in Chemung County has received $860,278 from the National Park Service (NPS) for acquiring 322.09 acres at the Newtown Battlefield. The funding comes through the American Battlefield Protection Program and aims to preserve the historical site of the Revolutionary War's Battle of Newtown.

“The Newtown Battlefield is a treasured and historic gem in Chemung County,” said Congressman Langworthy. “This investment will allow the Town of Ashland to preserve this important part of our nation's history for future generations while promoting local tourism and education. Preserving our historic battlefields also honors the sacrifice of those who gave their lives and ensures that their heroism is never forgotten.”

The National Park Service stated that the American Battlefield Protection Program focuses on safeguarding significant battlefields nationwide. The program’s investments aim to protect these sites from development and ensure they remain accessible for public education and commemoration.
