Today, Congressman Langworthy (NY-23) paid tribute to Chautauqua County Undersheriff Richard Telford on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives. Telford, a long-serving public servant, recently passed away after battling cancer. He had dedicated over 30 years to law enforcement.

Langworthy began his speech by recognizing Telford's commitment and service: "I rise today to honor the life and service of Chautauqua County Undersheriff Richard Telford, a dedicated public servant who spent over three decades protecting and serving the people of our county."

Telford was remembered as a reliable figure in his community. Sheriff Quattrone remarked, "Rich was a man of integrity, he could always be counted on to do the right thing." This sentiment was echoed throughout Langworthy’s address.

Telford started his career with the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office in 1991 after graduating from Jamestown High School and studying criminal justice at Jamestown Community College. Over the years, he served in various roles including deputy, sergeant overseeing the county’s 911 center, lieutenant, and supervisor for court security. In 2021, he was appointed undersheriff.

Beyond his professional life, Telford was described as a devoted family man. He is survived by his wife Amanda and their three children: Katelynn, Andrew, and Alex.

Langworthy highlighted Telford's qualities that made him stand out as a public servant: "Throughout his career, Rich embodied the qualities we look for in our public servants—integrity, courage, and respect."

Telford also participated in activities beyond his immediate duties such as investigating fires with the department’s fire investigation team and attending the FBI National Academy.

Concluding his remarks with gratitude for Telford's service and impact on many lives within Chautauqua County, Langworthy said: "Mr. Speaker, our hearts are heavy today but we are filled with gratitude for the life and legacy of Rich Telford. His dedication and service to Chautauqua County will not be forgotten."
