Assemblyman Joseph Angelino has expressed his approval of a new law signed by Governor Hochul. The legislation, which Angelino sponsored, will rename sections of the state highway system as the SP4 Herman Emil Anders, Jr. Memorial Bridge.

Specialist Herman Emil Anders, Jr., who participated in Operation Junction City, was a decorated soldier. His honors include the Bronze Star, Purple Heart, and National Defense Medal. During his service, Specialist Anders faced intense small-arms attacks and rocket fire to identify enemy targets while guiding his unit to a secondary position. He engaged with several enemy soldiers before being overwhelmed by opposing forces.

Specialist Anders is interred at Sylvan Lawn Cemetery in Chenango County.

Assemblyman Angelino commended the governor for signing this bill into law as a tribute to Specialist Anders' bravery and service.
