Assemblyman Phil Palmesano has issued the February edition of his "Grant Action News Update," a resource aimed at informing residents, organizations, and local governments about available grants from state, federal, and private entities. The monthly bulletin provides a consolidated list of grant opportunities across various categories.

Palmesano emphasized the importance of grants during economic recovery periods: “During a time of economic recovery, grants can play an integral part in helping our local communities complete needed infrastructure repairs or support underfunded projects.” He noted that many people are unaware of these opportunities due to uncertainty about where to look. “The ‘Grants Action News’ bulletin makes finding these grants much easier by consolidating the information and making it available to everyone,” he said.

The bulletin includes instructions for not-for-profit applicants on prequalifying through the NYS Grants Reform website, a necessary step for certain New York state grant applications. The Grant Action News is updated monthly with new grants and application information.

Among the state grants listed are funds from the NYS Office of Mental Health for expanding Youth Assertive Community Treatment teams and from the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation for household hazardous waste programs and community reforestation efforts. Federal grant opportunities include funding from the National Endowment for the Humanities and several departments such as Health and Human Services, Transportation, Agriculture, Education, and more.

Private grant options feature initiatives like sustainable packaging research funded by the Foundation for Food & Agriculture Research and studies on pet ownership's health outcomes supported by the Human Animal Research Institute.

Scholarship opportunities are also highlighted in this update. These include awards from organizations like the Hispanic Scholarship Fund, Tailhook Education Foundation Scholarships, and Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation’s Pediatric Oncology Student Training Program.
