Congressman Nick Langworthy addressed the potential government shutdown during a press conference at his Clarence District Office. The event took place as the deadline for government funding approaches on March 14th.
Langworthy criticized Senate Democrats and Chuck Schumer, attributing responsibility for the looming shutdown to them. He emphasized that although the House of Representatives passed a Continuing Resolution earlier in the week, it still requires a 60-vote majority in the Senate to proceed.
In his statement prior to the press conference, Langworthy said, “This is a politically orchestrated attack using Americans as the pawns. If it happens, Schumer and Senate Democrats own this government shutdown, full stop." He urged New Yorkers to contact Senator Schumer and Senator Gillibrand to demand better from their elected officials.
