CHEMUNG COUNTY: FREE COVID-19 Testing for Chemung County residents October 20-24, 2020

Covid

Chemung County issued the following announcement on Oct 17.

The Chemung County Health Department in conjunction with the New York State Department of Health is offering free rapid COVID-19 testing from Tuesday, October 20th through Saturday, October 24th from 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM, daily. Testing will be held at Washington Elementary School (Elmira School District Administration Building) at 430 Washington Ave, Elmira 14901. The testing is open to all Chemung County residents.

To be tested you must pre-register, fill in the required information, wear a mask, and have photo ID.  Space is limited and registration will be closed once all the spaces are filled.  Once you submit your registration, your time is booked and no further actions are needed.  However, if you provide an email address you will receive an email confirmation.  You do not need to bring your registration or confirmation with you to the site.  Members attending from the same household will need to register separately.  Participants will be directed to parking spots upon arrival to the parking lot and must remain in their cars with windows up until instructed to enter the building.  In an effort to run this clinic as efficiently as possible, please report only at your scheduled appointment time.

Please park in the building parking lot on Lincoln St.  There is overflow parking on the street if needed.  Health department staff will be available to guide cars to appropriate parking spaces.

Once testing is completed and results are provided, CCHD staff will discuss with each participant next steps depending on the test results.

Anyone with questions regarding testing or scheduling is encouraged to call 607-737-2018 while individuals with general COVID questions should call the Chemung County COVID hotline, 607-873-1813.

Testing for COVID-19 leads to quick identification of cases and immediate isolation of the person to prevent further spread in our community. Confirmed cases and close contacts to positive cases are quarantined to further reduce spread.  Testing is a vital tool for public health to monitor the COVID-19 infection rate as well as to reduce the impact of our current cluster.   The testing at this site is free, it does not require a doctor’s order, and results will be available on site.  It is possible to have COVID-19 with minimal or even no symptoms at all, that is why it is important that people receive testing.

Anyone who cannot make it to this test site is encouraged to visit https://coronavirus.health.ny.gov/find-test-site-near-you to find another testing location.
