BCPL works hard to create programs, collections, and spaces that meet the needs of our community members. To continue doing this and to do even more in the future, we need your help! On February 28th, the New York Library Association (NYLA) and members of libraries across the state will be gathering in-person and virtually to advocate for increased funding and to help legislators and others understand the importance of libraries. You can help us advocate! Your voice matters!

Check below to see how you can get involved!

Here’s how you can help!

Advocate on social media. NYLA has tips and tricks to help you advocate virtually: https://www.nyla.org/nyla-advocacy-day-2023/?menukey=nyla#Leverage (scroll down to where it reads Leverage Your Network). Use the hashtags #LibraryAdvocate and #LAD23 in your messages so NYLA can share your stories!

Write a message or make a video explaining why libraries are important to you and your community. These can be sent to: marketing@nyla.org. Videos will be shared on NYLA’s social media accounts.

Contact your state legislators! This can be done through social media and online, but you can also call them directly or send a letter! If you’d like to contact them online, NYLA has a contact form: https://oneclickpolitics.global.ssl.fastly.net/messages/edit?promo_id=19242.

Beyond Library Advocacy Day, the best way to support libraries is to spread the word about us and visit us! Attend a program! Check out a book, DVD, or CD! Use one of our public computers! Listen to an audiobook! Come and sit for a while!
