The City of Elmira is currently accepting applications for a full-time Assistant Building Inspector/Code Enforcement Officer.This position responsibility for securing compliance with the NYS Uniform Fire Prevention and Building Code and local code requirement. Also responsible for condemnation and demolition of structures and retains complete authority to order, in writing, the remedying of any condition found to exist in, on or about any structure or property in violation of the Code and to issue appearance tickets for such violations.
Minimum qualifications include either graduation from an accredited college or university or one accredited by the NYS Board of Regents to grant an Associate’s Degree in Engineering, Architecture or Building Science or related; or graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma and two (2) years of experience in building construction work; or graduation from high school or possession of an equivalency diploma and possession of the Basic Code Enforcement Training Certification from the Office of Fire Prevention and Control.
There will be a minimum probationary period of not less than 8 weeks up to 52 weeks. In addition, applicant must take a Civil Service test and score in the top three (3).
